Sharing a home with an ex is obviously a very bad idea, but sometimes it can’t be avoided. Here’s another one of our articles on dating tips online showing you the expert’s advice on how to live with your ex and how to get through it alive.
The other day, I was listening to a radio show, about sex and relationships and one of the stories really struck me. A woman had just recently broken up with her boyfriend, but they continue to share an apartment due to their shared lease. So they decided that they could become friends and just be roommates. Switching back and forth from sleeping on the bed and the couch. She realized that this situation if every odd and unheard of, but they had no other choice. “Together, we live quite comfortably,” she said. “But on my own I would be poor.”
When money is an issue, this really could happen. Anyone who has recently tried to find a decent apartment, they learned very quickly that finding an apartment that is affordable is next to impossible. Then on top of that if you don’t have a back up option, your only option would be with the ex.
Dr. Kimberly Moffit, a psychotherapist in Toronto, says that in her practice she has seen many exes who try to work something out and live together. Drawing boundaries is something very hard to do. For example, is it okay if he walks in the bathroom while you’re in the shower? Will the food continue to be shared? “A lot of the joyous activities wouldn’t be joyous anymore,” says Dr. Moffit. “And, of course, it would be much more of a roommate-style relationship where what’s yours is yours and what’s mine is mine.” Space –both physical and emotional is something you both would definitely need “It’s very difficult to deal with a breakup if you have the same group of friends as your former partner or if you work in the same environment – especially when they begin to date,” says Dr. Moffit.
How to draw boundaries
So if you recently broke up with a boyfriend and still have to live together you need to sit down and discuss your boundaries. Plan what has to be worn at all times around the house. Most importantly make sure you both agree no sleepovers! Dr. Moffit also advises discussing who should be doing what in the house when it comes to cleaning and shopping. Make sure you both agree on all your terms so you can start to live peacefully as roommates. Dr. Moffit’s ultimate advice, “If there’s any chance you can get the hell out of there, do it.” You should have your own life now. You should be doing date hookups now and start another relationship. You cant start that with your ex around. So Just get out of there if you can. Labels: free hookup chat rooms, free hookup website, free hookups online, free hookups tonight, totally free hookup sites
